Roll Up Report – Tuesday 27th August 2019

Seniors Roll up  27th August 2019

37 players took part in the penultimate Division one, casual cup games this week, as stated following the game, next week will also be the same format this is because the scheduled game which was planned for September 24th clashes with course maintenance.

Players starting on the 11th

Management have requested that should those players who have started earlier in the day come around to the the 11th whilst the roll up players are yet to tee off, must be allowed to play through, this only happens rarely and should not have too much of an impact on members.

Roll Up Report – Tuesday 20th August 2019

Seniors Roll up  20th August 2019

23 players took part in the roll up this week with 22 entering the MMM.

We had two instances this week that members should be aware of, one was where a four ball were booked immediately before the first tee time allocated for the MMM, we understand that this is perfectly legitimate however not ideal, in the past members playing a four ball match have teed off the 11th after the last group in the roll up and this works well.

Secondly a tee time was booked for 08:34 which is within the allocated times for the roll up, we have agreed with the Pro shop that in the future no similar requests will be allowed, should anyone have a reason for such a request please contact either the Captain or Vice Captain stating the reason for this and then they will try to accommodate the request.

Nearest the pin charity raising

As stated in a previous report, Dave Merrison has donated a quality Ex  demo chipper and the money raised is to go to “Scottys little soldiers” which we held three weeks ago, the cost for entry is a minimum of £2 but feel free to increase this if you wish.

Roll Up Round Up – Tuesday 30th July 2019

Seniors Roll up 30th July 2019

Unbelievably we had 33 members turn up for the roll up this week, what’s more 27 actually went the distance even though the weather was not ideal!.

Away Day

If you intend to play in this competition please ensure your names are entered on the sign up sheet in plenty of time.

Knighton Trophy

The sign up sheet is on the Seniors notice board, please ensure you sign up sooner than later, this year we will be teeing off on more than one tee so that players complete in a timely manner, for the benefit of any new members this competition is in place of the weekly roll up, therefore, if you wish to play then enter now.

Ross Standing

With the reduced attendance this week we still managed to raise £90:70, the winner of the nearest the pin was Bill Baker who generously asked that we use the prize next week to increase the amount that we can donate to the charity nominated by the family of Ross.

We also thank Gordon Westerhof for donating the prize originally and Phil Toms who won last week and has returned the prize to be used again.

Lefties v Righties

Our vice captain has been chosen to captain the “Righties”, for those not familiar with this competition, if you turn right when leaving the club then you’re a Rightie if you turn left then your not.

The competition takes place on Sunday August 18th, if you’re only a five day member but would like to take part then let Brian know and I’m confident he can find a solution for you!.

Roll Up Report – 16th July 2019

Seniors Roll up  16th July 2019

26 players took part in the roll up this week with another 20 entering the MMM, once again we were blessed with fine weather which meant that the ball travelled much further than certainly I’m used to.

I’m sure that all members will be shocked to hear of the tragic death of one of our young club members, Ross Standing, Ross who was just 27 years old was involved in a traffic accident whilst driving to the golf club, our thoughts are with His family and friends at this very sad time

On Sunday Gerri Lisi was leaving the site and was also involved in a traffic accident at the entrance, this should be a reminder to all of us that although there is a 50 mph limit on the A420, when traffic is heavy extreme caution needs to be taken.

It was good to see Greg Phillips at the club on Tuesday, I’ve been in touch with Greg and he’s hoping to be about much more in the near future.

Captain’s Report on Seniors Open 2019

Seniors Open 4th July 2019

Thankfully the day started with the sun shining, which is always a worry especially with One hundred players scheduled to play this year.

Along with the golf club staff, Brian Reid and I arrived on site at 07:00 with things to arrange before the players arrived.

At 08:00 our faithful putting competition controller Ron Temple arrived, suitably attired in his usual garb of striped blazer, true to form not one person was allowed past without first donating the statuary one pound, whether they were taking part in the days competition or were just passing his station.

Next to arrive were the ladies who volunteered to control the registration, Jan Crawshaw and Beryl Vann, by the result of the amount of raffle tickets sold no one escaped from their mesmerising control.

The Starter for the day Brian Stepney arrived in time to have his breakfast minus the sausage, he gave strict instructions that the missing sausage was to be served with a coffee at his place of work precisely at 10:30.

It was around 08:00 that the first players started to arrive, this was followed by a steady stream over the next four hours.

Breakfast was well received and the service that was provided by the clubhouse staff was exceptional and worked with military precision.

At 08:50 the first call came from

Brian Stepney through the PA system, instructing the first group of players to report to the starters position for instructions, this continued at 10 minute intervals until the final group left the tee four hours later, at this point I was informed by Brian that he had achieved in getting everyone away on time but could take no responsibility on the timings of their return.

Around 10:00 Keith Arlott who is still recouping after his knee operation arrived to man the drinks wagon, Keith did a few runs ( in his buggy ) around the course early on, returning on two occasions to replenish his stocks, as the final groups came around to the 10th Keith decided to station himself by the tee, this was I believe to try and get some tips on improving his game!

As the groups progressed around the course it was a relief to see that by restricting the start times by ten minutes rather than the usual eight seemed to work well, there was the odd occasion when groups were held up however these seemed to be few and far between.

Hole 17

This was everyone’s opportunity to show off their golfing skills to our resident Professional Derek Craik, there were One hundred “golfers” playing and only Six managed to win the sleeve of balls, from what I understand now is that Derek is expecting to be busy over the coming months giving lessons, if everyone took part in the competition then it meant that Derek had a 94% success rate, however, having worked in an industry where targets were set by our customers at 99.9% , Derek, we need to see some improvement by next year!

A full list of winners can be found on this website

It now just leaves me to thank all those who helped to make the day a success.

Green keepers

Ron Temple

Brian Stepney

Jan Crawshaw

Beryl Vann

 Keith Arlott

All members who sponsored holes and donated raffle prizes, there are too many to mention ( truth is I don’t want to miss anyone out )

And last but not least thanks to this year’s vice captain Brian Reid who put everything together and achieved not only a record attendance but also a memorable day for all who took part.

The amount raised for our charity will be announced shortly when our financial secretary has finalised the income v the outgoings.

Roll Up Report – Tuesday 25th June 2019

Seniors roll up 25th June 2019

Captains Cup

54 members played in this competition, the weather threatened to pose a problem, however, for those of us who are made of sterner stuff we carried on regardless.

After the competition had closed I used what I believed to be the correct way of calculating the winner using count back, this proved to be incorrect and for this I apologise.

The correct way to determine the winner using count back is to calculate the scores using nett results not gross as I did.

Therefore the results of the competition as declared by howdidido is:

1st Chris Curd

2nd Glyn Williams

3rd Brian Rawle

The match last week against Cleeve Cloud was:
